What Is Umbrella Insurance, in Plain Language?
Umbrella insurance is an extra layer of liability coverage. If you're found responsible for a covered injury or damage and the bill exceeds your home, auto or boat liability limit, the umbrella pays the rest up to its own limit.
How it fits
Your auto, home and boat policies pay first. The umbrella sits above them and can also cover some claims they don't.
What it's not
It doesn't cover your own property or injuries, or most business activities unless added.
